Jon Stewart disappointed Obama not more of a dictator

Over in Rolling Stone, Jon Stewart, “the Walter Cronkite of this generation,” frets that the president hasn’t done more to circumvent the Constitution’s separation of powers:

I’m surprised at how much he deferred to the legislative process. He’s accomplished some things, and I’m sure he’s pleased with what he’s done, but I would have preferred to see something a little bit more transformative.

Stewart is in his mid-forties and obviously steeped in pop culture. He must have seen the “How a Bill Becomes Law” episode of “Schoolhouse Rock” a couple of hundred of times by now.

I can only assume the Daily Show writers haven’t yet told Stewart that Obama had a filibuster-proof Democratic majority in congress when he took office.

Obama wants to be a Chavez.

Yes, he would dearly love to be a Hugo Chavez, or even a Hu Jintao (as he has already admitted), and while he had the audacity of hope to pull off a constitutional coup d’etat, he lacked the actual stones to pull it off while he held super majorities in both Houses. Thank God!

I know nothing should surprise me when it comes to Hollywood liberals but I really shake my head that anyone still sees Stewart as sort of equal opportunity offender, speaking “truth to power.” He only criticizes Obama because he’s inpatient that “the one” hasn’t yet instituted one party, one man, rule.

Steward begins to remind me of Maher. Same MO. Started as the “he tells it how it is regardless of party affiliation” and ended up vying for the “resident liberal” title with Matthews…

It’s typical. Democrats complain about the over concentration of power in the executive, until a Democrat is president. Why do you think they have no problem with the wiretaps and other Patriot Act provisions that give power to the executive?
