In 2008, candidate Obama attacked John McCain for proposing a commission on the economic crisis:

In 2010, President Obama now demonstrates that leadership…by establishing a commission on fiscal responsibility and reform:

But under the leadership of Erskine and Alan, I’m confident that the Commission I’m establishing today will build a bipartisan consensus to put America on the path toward fiscal reform and responsibility. Who would have thought you could find “change” in “the oldest Washington stunt in the book?”
“Federal debt has exploded, the trajectory is clear and it is disturbing, but the politics of dealing with chronic deficits is fraught with hard choices and therefore it is treacherous to office-holders here in Washington”
So what the Prez is saying is that our Representatives and Senators in Washington were basically sitting around, doing the peoples work, minding their own business when all of the sudden, the debt just exploded!
